British Police will provide around-the-clock protection for m<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

osques and other Islamic sites in the wake of reprisal attacks on worship places and schools triggered by the machete killing of an army soldier.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“In all boroughs across London, there is an increased police presence around lo<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

cations that might be at risk,\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said, the BBC News Online reported Monday, June 10.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe will maintain a 24\/7 guard of uniformed officers at sites we consider<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

to be at greatest risk.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The move follows attacks on mosques and an Islamic school in Britain in recent days.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, a fire gutted the Darul Uloom Islamic school in Foxbury Avenue in south-east London. Police described the blaze at the Islamic school as \u201csuspicious\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It came after a suspected arson attack on an Islamic centre in n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Met is now investigating suspicious fires at two locations <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

within the Islamic community which have happened in the past few days. Fortunately no one has been hurt, but we know that fires can often prove fatal,\u201d the police commissioner said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo I want to reassure people that we are using our full range of policing tactics to protect sites that might be vulnerable.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He assured the public the police are \u201cworking tirelessly to establish whether these fires were started deliberately, and if so, to catch those responsible.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Unity<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The police commissioner called for Britons to promote unity and avoid division in the wake of the soldier\u2019s killing.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe should not allow the murder of Lee Rigby to come between Londoners,\u201d Hogan-Howe said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The figure included 11 attacks on mosques, in a series manifestation of anti-Muslim sentiments.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Britain is home of a Muslim community of nearly 2.7 million.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A Financial Times opinion poll showed that Britain is the most suspicious nation about Muslims.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A poll of the Evening Standard found that a sizable section of London residents harbor negative opinions about Muslims.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
