{"id":888,"date":"2012-08-08T12:01:11","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T12:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/rs\/en\/a-revelation-abu-lahab\/"},"modified":"2012-08-08T12:01:11","modified_gmt":"2012-08-08T12:01:11","slug":"a-revelation-abu-lahab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/r-islam.com\/en\/a-revelation-abu-lahab\/","title":{"rendered":"Why did not Abu Lahab convert to Islam?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-887\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/rs\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2012\/08\/why%20did%20not%20abu%20lahab%20convert%20to%20islam.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 10px 15px;\" width=\"425\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) had an uncle by the name of Abu Lahab. This man hated Islam to such an extent that he used to follow the Prophet around in order to discredit him. If Abu Lahab saw the Prophet (Peace be upon him) speaking to a stranger, he would wait until they parted and the would go to the stranger and ask him, \u201cWhat did he tell you? Did he say, \u2018Black\u2019? Well, it\u2019s white. Did he say \u2018morning\u2019? Well, it\u2019s night.\u201d He faithfully said the exact opposite of whatever he heard Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and the Muslims say. However, about ten years before Abu Lahab died, a little chapter in the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Quran (Surah al<\/strong><strong>\u2010<\/strong><strong>Lahab, 111)<\/strong><\/span> was revealed about him. It distinctly stated that he would go to the fire (i.e., Hell). In other words, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">it affirmed that he would never become a Muslim and would therefore be condemned forever.<\/span><\/strong> For ten years all Abu Lahab had to do was say, \u201cI heard that it has been revealed to Muhammad that I will never change \u2010 that I will never become a Muslim and will enter the Hellfire. Well, I want to become Muslim now. How do you like that? What do you think of your divine revelation now?\u201d But he never did that. And yet, that is exactly the kind of behavior one would have expected from him since he always sought to contradict Islam.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">In essence, Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u201cYou hate me and you want to finish me? Here, say these words, and I am finished. Come on, say them!\u201d<\/span><\/strong> But Abu Lahab never said them. Ten years! And in all that time he never accepted Islam or even became sympathetic to the Islamic cause.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>How could Muhammad (<\/strong><strong>Peace be upon him<\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">) possibly have known for sure that Abu Lahab would fulfil the Quranic revelation if he (i.e., Muhammad) was not truly the messenger of Allah?<\/span> <\/strong>How could he possibly have been so confident as to give someone 10 years to discredit his claim of prophethood?
