Description:<\/strong> Evidence for the claim that Muhammad was a true prophet and not an imposter. \u00a0Part 1: Some proofs that led various companions to believe in his prophethood.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Divine facilitation is proportionate to human need.\u00a0 God makes acquisition easier as the need of humans increase.\u00a0 Air, water, and sunlight are necessary for human survival, and thus God has granted their acquisition to all without hardship.\u00a0 The greatest human need is to know the Creator, and thus, God has made it easy to know Him.\u00a0 The evidence for God, however, differs in its nature.\u00a0 In its own way, everything in creation is evidence of its Creator.\u00a0 Some evidence is so obvious that any lay person can immediately \u2018see\u2019 the Creator, for instance, the cycle of life and death.\u00a0 Others \u2018see\u2019 the handiwork of the Creator in the elegance of mathematical theorems, universal constants of physics, and the development of the embryo:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBehold! \u00a0in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day,- there are indeed signs for men of understanding<\/span>.\u201d (Quran 3:190<\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Like the existence of God, human beings need evidence to establish the truth of prophets who spoke in His name.\u00a0 Muhammad, like the prophets before him, claimed to be God\u2019s final prophet to humanity.\u00a0 Naturally, the evidence for his veracity is diverse and numerous.\u00a0 Some are obvious, while others are apparent only after deep reflection.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

God says in the Quran:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026Is it not enough (for them to know) that your Lord is witness unto everything?<\/span>\u201d (Quran 41:53)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Divine witness by itself is sufficient without any other evidence.\u00a0 God\u2019s witness for Muhammad lies in:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(a) God\u2019s past revelations to earlier prophets which prophesize Muhammad\u2019s appearance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(b) God\u2019s Acts: the miracles and \u2018signs\u2019 He gave to support Muhammad\u2019s claim.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How did it all begin in the early days of Islam?\u00a0 How were the first believers convinced he was God\u2019s prophet?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The first person to believe in the prophethood of Muhammad was his own wife, Khadija.\u00a0 When he returned home trembling out of fear after receiving divine revelation, she was his solace:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNever! \u00a0By God, God will never disgrace you.\u00a0 You keep good relations with your relatives, help the poor, serve your guests generously, and assist those hit with calamities.<\/span>\u201d (Saheeh Al-Bukhari<\/em><\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

She saw in her husband a man God would not humiliate, because of his virtues of honesty, justice, and helping the poor.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His closest friend, Abu Bakr who had known him all his life and was almost the same age, believed the moment he heard the words, \u2018I am God\u2019s Messenger\u2019<\/em> without any additional confirmation other than the open book of his friend\u2019s life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another person who accepted his call on merely listening to it, was \u2018Amr\u2019[ Amr b. Abasa Sulami.] He says:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI used to think before Islam that people were in error and they were on nothing.\u00a0 They worshipped idols.\u00a0 In the meantime, I heard of a man preaching in Mecca; so I went to him\u2026I asked him: \u2018Who are you?\u2019\u00a0 He said: \u2018I am a Prophet.\u2019 \u00a0I again said: \u2018Who is a Prophet?\u2019\u00a0 He said: \u2018God sent me.\u2019 \u00a0I said: \u2018What did He send you with?\u2019\u00a0 He said: \u2018I have been sent to join ties of relationship, to break the idols, and to proclaim the unity of God so nothing is associated with Him (in worship).\u2019 \u00a0I said: \u2018Who is with you in this?\u2019\u00a0 He said: \u2018A free man and a slave (referring to Abu Bakr and Bilal, a slave, who had embraced Islam by that time).\u2019 \u00a0I said: \u2018I intend to follow you<\/span>.\u2019\u201d (Saheeh Muslim<\/em><\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dimad was a desert healer who specialized in mental illnesses.\u00a0 On his visit to Mecca he heard the Meccans say that Muhammad (may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him) was insane!\u00a0 Confident of his skills, he said to himself, \u2018If I were to come across this man, God might cure him at my hand.\u2019\u00a0 Dimad met the Prophet and said: \u2018Muhammad, I can protect (one) who suffers from mental illness or under sorcery, and God cures one whom He so desires at my hand.\u00a0 Do you desire to be cured?\u2019\u00a0 The Prophet of God responded, starting with his usual introduction to his sermons:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed, praise and gratitude is for God.\u00a0 We praise Him and ask for His help.\u00a0 He who God guides, none can lead astray, and he who is led astray cannot be guided.\u00a0 I bear witness no one deserves worship but God, He is One, has no partners, and Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dimad, stuck by the beauty of the words, asked him to repeat them, and said, \u2018I have heard the words of diviners, sorcerers, and poets, but I have never heard such words, they reach the depth of the oceans.\u00a0 Give me your hand so I may pledge my allegiance to you on Islam.\u2019[ Saheeh Muslim<\/em><\/strong>.]<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After Gabriel brought the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad, Khadija, his wife, took him to visit her old cousin, Waraqa bin Nawfal, a biblical scholar, to discuss the event.\u00a0 Waraqa recognized Muhammad from the prophecies of the Bible and confirmed:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the Keeper of Secrets (Angel Gabriel) who came to Moses<\/span>.\u201d (Saheeh Al-Bukhari<\/em><\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The face can be a window to the soul.\u00a0 Abdullah bin Salam, the chief rabbi of Medina at the time, looked at the face of the Prophet when he arrived in Medina, and exclaimed:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe moment I looked at his face, I knew it was not the face of a liar!<\/span>\u201d (Saheeh Al-Bukhari<\/em><\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many of those around the Prophet who did not accept Islam did not doubt in his veracity, but refused to do so for other reasons.\u00a0 His uncle, Abu Talib, aided him throughout his life, confessed to the truthfulness of Muhammad, but refused to break off from the religion of his ancestors out of shame and social status.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
