Allaah The Almighty created man for a noble purpose: to worship Him and lead a virtuous life based on His teachings and guidance. In order to teach humanity the purpose of existence and give them clear and practical instructions, Allaah The Almighty sent to every nation at least one prophet to convey His Message to people.
Allaah The Almighty supports His Prophets with miracles to prove that they are indeed divinely guided. The miracles are granted to a Prophet by the power and permission of Allaah The Almighty, and are usually in the field in which his people excel. The superiority of the Prophetic miracles proves that they are of Divine origin and cannot be replicated by ordinary mortals.
The miracles granted by Allaah The Almighty are proof that He Alone is capable of creating from nothing. For instance, the people of Thamood were sent Prophet Saalih who invited them to believe in Allaah The Almighty, reminding them of the favors Allaah The Almighty had granted them.
In order to put him off his mission, they pointed to a rock and demanded, “Ask your Lord to make a she-camel, which must be ten months pregnant, tall and attractive, issue from the rock for us.” Saalih asked them if they would believe in him and have faith if they saw such a creature, and they agreed.
After taking a vow from them, he prayed to Allaah The Almighty to grant their request and the distant rock split asunder, bringing forth a great ten-month pregnant she-camel. When the people set eyes on her, they were amazed at the clear evidence, yet, only a few of them believed. Allaah The Almighty Says: {And We gave Thamood the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We send not the signs except as a warning.} [Quran 17: 59]
Thus, Allaah The Almighty makes miracles a means of guiding people. This is also seen in the story of Moosa (Moses) who was sent to a nation known for their proficiency at magic, so the major miracle granted to him was to defeat the best magicians of Egypt. The miracles performed by Moosa led to the guidance of the most skilled magicians of his time, when they were confronted with Divine proof.
The Quran states (what means): {[Pharaoh] said, “You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all.” They said, “No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return.Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers.”}[Quran 26: 49-51]
This shows that the miracles granted by Allaah The Almighty not only lead disbelievers to guidance, they make the believers steadfast in their faith as well.
Divine miracles are irrefutable proof of a Prophet’s veracity and truthfulness, as seen in the divine miracles granted ‘Eesa (Jesus) . He spoke as an infant, healed the sick and even brought the dead back to life, by the permission of Allaah The Almighty.
Divine miracles are clear signs from Allaah The Almighty that remove all hindrances that prevent people from accepting the truth. Prophet Muhammad, , was given numerous miracles during his lifetime, such as the splitting of the moon, water gushing forth from his fingers and inanimate objects responding to his call, but the miracle which silenced the skeptics was the Quran. It challenged not just the Arab poets and orators of his time, but all of humanity and Jinn to make combined efforts to produce ten chapters, or even a chapter like it – and added that they certainly could not do so.
The Quran is a universal and everlasting miracle in terms of its style, content and its unique power of spiritual enlightenment, which are verifiable and testified to, even today.
In addition, the Quran contains a remarkable number of scientific truths. For a book that was revealed over fourteen centuries ago to the Prophet Muhammad, , there are innumerable examples of information that have been uncovered by the technology of the 20th and 21st century. It exemplifies the wisdom behind divine miracles, which do not leave people with any excuse for not accepting the truth.
